Wheelie Pop Brewing

Wheelie Pop Brewing is owned by two friends, Mark (pictured on the left) and Jeremy (pictured on the right), and their families. The two of them met through their sons, and quickly became friends – spurred by their shared love of motorcycles, racing, and beer.

Where did the name Wheelie Pop come from? Their boys used to call wheelies ‘wheel pops’ back in preschool and they thought it would make a fun name.

Brewing System

All of our beers are created in-house at our Ballard location on our 10 BBL brewhouse (below left photo). The brewhouse was manufactured by Premier Stainless Systems in 2007 and is a 2-vessel configuration with a combined mash/lauter tun and combined kettle/whirlpool. The hot liquor tank (HLT) and mash/lauter tun are stacked to save space.  The kettle is gas-fired, while the HLT is electric.

We have 6 fermentation vessels (below center photo) — (2) 10 BBL and (2) 20 BBL FVs manufactured by Premier Stainless in 2007 and (2) 10 BBL FVs manufactured by Specific Mechanical in 2021. We also have (2) 10 BBL stacked horizontal lagering tanks (not pictured, they’re too sexy).  The numbers on the tanks are Jeremy’s favorite MotoGP motorcycle racers (most of which have retired – we might have to update the numbers!).

We have 7 bright/serving tanks (below right photo) which are single wall (e.g. no glycol cooling jacket) and thus are located in our walk-in cooler to stay cold — (5) 10 BBL units and (2) 20 BBL units. These were also manufactured by Premier Stainless in 2007. They act as serving tanks as well as bright tanks. Most of our beers spend at least 2 weeks in these tanks to condition – sometimes longer depending on the style.

All of the Premier Stainless equipment was purchased used from The Ram Brewery’s Northgate location when it closed in 2020. A lot of local brewers have brewed on this system over the years. We love hearing their stories and are stoked to carry on the tradition!
